Charlotte

Charlotte was my first tarantula and like many beginners I chose a Mexican red knee. She is an earth based spider who is more suited to a wide tank and a burrow than a tall tank with tree branches. She will grow to approx 5 inches and live for up to thirty years.
Charlotte is a seriously grumpy spider. She has a habit of trying to kick the hairs off her back end to irritate me with them. She doesn't do a great deal, too lazy to be honest. But she doesn't mind being handled when she is in the mood for it.

Ariadne

Ariadne is my only arboreal tarantula meaning she is more suited to having plenty of climbing space than burrowing space. She is also extremely fast and skittish. She is the most likely to escape so I usually have someone else in the room when I get her out. From a distance Ariadne looks the big black spider of nightmares but when you get up close she is actually very pretty and not so much black as different shades of purple and green. I call her my fuzzy felt tarantula as she has such a fluffy appearance. Ariadne also has pink feet, hence her title of a "pink toed tarantula". Ariadne is the only one of my tarantulas who is only handled by me. Like I say, she does look a bit scary! (Ariadne will also grow to seven inches!!)
Saffy

Saffy is a Chilean Rose which should mean she is very slow and pondering and doesn't do more than the average pet rock. But Saffy is unusual for the species in the fact that she is very interactive and likes to be handled. Saffy is my only adult sized tarantula and as such I like handling her because there is a lot less chance she will get lost! Up close Saffy has beautiful bronze and copper colouring. She is the least aggressive of the three and the best eater. Pity the poor crickets who end up in her cage!
Sapphire

The sharper eyed among you may spot that Sapphire isn't a tarantula in the sense of being a living creature... She is however the most fantastic knitted creation I have ever seen! Sapphire was knitted for me by a very kind friend on Twitter who felt sorry for me when my husband put his foot down and forbade me to buy a cobalt blue tarantula. I moaned on Twitter and Sapphire was born! She now has pride of place in the witch room and is the only tarantula allowed to share my bed!
