As we travel through life we find ourselves in places that come to have great meaning to us. These can be associated with our childhood, with people we have loved or even with our own personal journey and the relationship we form with ourselves as we travel on our path. My favourite author speaks of the place we truly belong being not the place of our birth but the place to which we feel attached with a magic rope. When we move too far from that place and feel in need of solace and comfort the rope pulls us back.
Magical places for the witch are not necessarily the ones on the tourist trail (though some on my list are certainly tourist hot spots) - nor are they always to be found immersed in the middle of nature. My ten magical places includes cities where the motion, the music and the sheer pulse of so many people adds power to the workings I do. My list also includes personal places from my childhood and my formative years when I was just beginning to understand who I was. A park from childhood retains the magic that parks encountered in later life never quite seem to match.
My list includes places that have significance to me emotionally and places that have significance for me as a witch - I think I knew I would end up following this path from when at five years old I dropped my first penny piece into Mother Shipton's wishing well...
It was quite a grounding experience to compile a list of the ten places that mean the most to me. A worthwhile trip down memory lane. If any of my readers feel suitably inspired I'd be very interested indeed to see what your own ten personal magic places are and why they mean so much to you.
