Witch Path Forward

What is the main idea behind the site?

I suppose "Ask a Witch a Question" is me giving something back to a community that has taught me so much. Its been a successful venture so far and I think my common sense approach has been appreciated. I've noticed not all the questions I get are about witchcraft and its great that I've attracted such a diverse readership.
I also wanted to use my blog to explore the different aspects of witchcraft and to showcase the other parts of me to highlight that witches are not the stereotype that the media would portray us as. I think having a witch openly admit to working in a bank and having a fixation with Abba is a step toward demystifying those of us who work on the magical paths.
I didn't want this to be a serious study of witchcraft. There are sites that do that already and I am a member of a couple where I can have as much academic discussion as I like. I wanted this to be more informal, a little fun, a little off the beaten track.

What exactly is a degu?

A degu is a small mammal, a rodent. They are kind of a cross between a squirrel, a rat and a chinchilla. They come from the Chilian deserts and need a completely sugar free diet as they are prone to getting diabetes. Degus are intrinsically naughty creatures and through they make very interactive and loving pets, I don't recommend you keep them as pets unless you are pretty laid back about having all your personal possessions systematically chewed to pieces over a short period of time.

How do I send you a question to answer on the site?

Click on this link Ask a Witch a Question . I answer most of the questions I receive within three days and if the question is a bit personal for publication I send a full reply via email. I email you to let you know when the question has gone up on the site. Normally I am happy to answer questions about anything but obviously it is best if you try to make them as relevant as possible to the site.

How do I know you know what you are talking about?

You don't. And that is precisely why you shouldn't take the words of any unknown person on the internet as absolute truth. Check, check and double check, not just what I tell you but what anyone on the internet tells you.  I don't know everything and I'm happy to put my hand up and say that. Use my advice and information as a starting point for your own investigations. I'm a witch, not the Oracle!

Is there an age limit?

I'm kind of pitching my site at newbie witches. These can be young or old, age isn't really a factor in learning the craft in my opinion. My vision for the site was to create a place where people can ask questions (yes, even silly questions, maybe especially silly questions) without ridicule and get some sensible common sense replies. Most of the content is age friendly (I think) but the odd post in my personal journal may stray toward the 18+ waters. But in general, the language is fairly clean, there is no (or very little) sexual content and I don't post pornography or pictures depicting graphical violence. I've designed the site to help and support, not to offend.

Is your site affiliated to a particular path?

Not really. Its a very eclectic mix of Paganism, Witchcraft, Wicca and other traditions under the same umbrella. I make no secret of the fact that I have much more knowledge in some areas than others but I wanted to include information that would help people starting out as a magical practitioner. I think I probably focus heavily on my own personal path which pulls from a wide range of influences, though predominantly Trad Witchcraft. But I didn't want a serious esoteric study on Witchcraft, I wanted a friendly place that people can use as a starting point on their own journey.

What do you do if you don't know the answer to a question?

This has happened a few times. I'm very fortunate to know a great many witches and magical practitioners and I don't hesitate to get a second opinion if the answer to a question isn't immediately obvious. Often there is more than one way to answer a question and by discussing (anonymously)  the situation with others I am able to present more than one solution in an answer.

What about parents who don't want you advising their children?

If I was directly asked by a parent not to post their child's comment on my site, I would respect that and act in accordance with their wishes. When answering questions I look for solutions that promote harmony rather than discord in households and I look for ways to help young witches achieve compromises with their parents. It would therefore be hypocritical of me to act in such a way that would show disrespect to the parents. If a parent had an issue, I would be happy to discuss the matter with a parent privately but ultimately it is not my place to ignore the parents or to defy their wishes.

Are you worried that a site on Witchcraft will be seen as anti Christian/anti Muslim?

I think there is a great deal of difference between being an individual who does not practice Christianity/Islam and an individual who is "anti" either religion. Indeed I strive on my site to promote respect of other faiths and to encourage tolerance toward all religious beliefs. There is of course the odd person who believes that all witches are evil, all witches are sinners etc and I'm not going to bother trying to change their minds on the matter. But essentially my message is about respect and tolerance, not bigotry.

Are you Wiccan?

No. I have some Wiccan influences on my path and several Wiccan friends but I do not follow the Wiccan religion and I do not subscribe to its belief structure. My path is closer to Traditional Witchcraft. However as my site attracts a lot of people new to witchcraft I try to include some Wiccan information on here in the interests of providing balanced information to aid informed choices on people's individual paths.

Will you do a love spell/curse for me?

Probably not.  Depends who and why.
(I have an inbox full of requests relating to Justin Bieber so in the case of anything involving that young man, definitely not.)
