It’s difficult, when we get a short question like this, to decide how to answer. Do we answer in as broad a way as possible? Do we ignore it and hope they get in touch again, a little more concisely? There are many facets to all questions but this time, instead of talking to you as a Pagan, I’m going to answer as a Psychologist.
Is it real?
What is reality? Reality is perception. No two people will ever perceive anything in exactly the same way. Brains develop individually, using a complex and infinite combination of environmental and cognitive factors. So, what is the perceived reality for one person can never be the exact same perception of reality to another.
Is it real?
Is magic real? I believe so. From my reality, my perspective, science and magic are one in the same. Science, for me, is the explanation of magic and does nothing to make it any less fantastical. For others, magic is the manifestation of energy, which they believe they can influence with their own energy, much like Christians and other groups believe in the power of prayer. All the universe is made up of various forms of energy and we find ways of transferring and altering that energy every single day so is it a huge stretch to consider that by focusing the energy of our minds, which itself runs on many forms of natural energy and communicates using chemical energy signals, we could change, influence or move the energy on the outside? I don’t believe so, though many find it too much of a stretch for them.
In the end, what you truly must ask yourself is; what do you believe? What is your perception? What is the basis of your reality. When you know that, and it can take a lifetime to answer that question, you’ll be closer to being able to answer this question for yourself.
Blessings!
