However this is not to say that there is no one absolute truth that lies beyond our understanding. It is entirely possible that one of the religions has a closer concept of this absolute truth than any other. But we’ll never know. This, you might conclude should make all wars concerning religion entirely redundant…But it doesn't - belief helps us to shape our way in the world and to discover our own sense of what is right and wrong in the way we lead our lives. Belief gives our lives meaning and I would argue that belief is a stronger basis to faith than hard fact anyway. Belief is the ability of the individual to know without needing proof. Should I be a God (I'l not I'm a witch) I think I'd be a lot happier with that than with the scientific types who insist I prove myself before they believe in me.
As it is impossible to have a full understanding of the true nature of deity, the best any of us can do is to follow a path that feels closest to our own beliefs and that works well for us. This is not to say that religions are made up or invented and it is not to say anything goes but it is to say that we can only go forward with our intuition, not in the certainty of hard facts. Ultimately what feels right to us as far as religion and the deities go is our only guide as to how we as individuals can move closer toward the truths that lie beyond our understanding.
