Suggestions for calling a beloved using menstrual blood?

2/10/2020

QUESTION: I use a mooncup and I've often felt a desire to collect my menstrual blood and perform some kind of ritual. What do you recommend for calling in a beloved? That's what I feel drawn to right now.

ANSWER: There are lots of different rituals you can perform using menstrual blood. It is a powerful ingredient in any magical working due to its connection to you and your lifeforce and can be used for several things.

The process of collecting the blood can be a ritual is its own right if you spend time with your energy and honouring it during the days of your menstruation. Take time to be with yourself as you are, however that is. No judgement, no denial – simply sit with yourself and innate natural power.

You can collect it and store it in the fridge in a sealed bottle or jar to use as ink for your book of shadows or journal. It will dry if spread thinly and then can be scraped up and stored as blood flakes in your kit for later use in spellwork and rituals.

During spellwork and ritual you can use blood for several things including to dress candles, draw sigils, write or draw in your book of shadows or even to create a temporary blood tattoo. It can even be used for divination.

Using it to call a beloved to oneself is a valid use of menstrual blood too, though some would consider it on the darker side of morality as it can mean that you’re effectively trying to have an impact on another’s free will without their permission. I personally would not perform a ritual of this nature unless it was for myself, but I also understand that it can be done with fully informed permission from the other person involved too.

Before I give my suggestions, I would advise on the side of caution when working with blood. There are some basic rules to keeping it safe and as mess free as possible.

  • You must not use blood to work magic on someone else if you have a disease that is transferred through bodily fluids
  • You must store menstrual blood while it’s fresh and keep it in the fridge
  • Keep everything clean, including your hands and any bottles or jars you use for storage
  • Blood magic of any kind usually only needs a drop or two – this is powerful stuff!
  • Consider the ethics of what you’re about to do and the consequences that may arise as a result – are you prepared to accept them fully?

For a fully consensual ritual to work together:
Feed your beloved a drop or a flake of your menstrual blood. This is a magical deepening of your connection together and a powerful consensual binding together of lifeforces. Done within an intimate space with intent, love and passion this can be an amazing experience for two people with a deeply magical connection.

For calling a beloved to you:
Use your blood to write a spell that calls them to you using words that they will respond to then say it out loud while imagining them arriving as many times as you feel are needed.  This is best done later in the evening when the world is quieter so they can hear your call. Destroy the paper in an appropriate way once your goal is accomplished.

 Bright blessings,
Sarah x
