ANSWER -I would agree that constant repetition can in fact be a bit overkill sometimes. I see no need to perform a spell seven times to obtain the desired result and given that every time you do it you will be losing both your interest and the spontaneity of your initial intent and enthusiasm, I don’t think doing it over and over again will do that much good. Effective spell work is about summoning intent with a precise eye to desired outcome. If you can summon that intent effectively enough in one session then repeating it is unnecessary.
There is a difference however between repeating a spell and maintaining a focus. You might want to set up a spell and then reaffirm your intention and focus on a regular basis. I’ll give you an example, I recently performed a rather intricate spell involving two poppets and a paper aeroplane. The casting of the spell was all rather elaborate, a sustained session of spell work confirming specific intent. However for several weeks afterwards I maintained the focus by reaffirming my intention out loud and throwing the paper aeroplane about. It was a nudge to keep the spell on track but at no point did I feel compelled to perform the whole thing over and over again.
I’d also caution that spells are not just about intention although this is a very very common misconception. To limit the notion of power to being nothing more than the intent of the witch is to deny a good part of the craft. There is power in symbols, objects, spirits, environment, language. Working with magic is about knowing how to harness and utilise these different powers. Your own intent plays a key part certainly but if magic relied on nothing more than wanting something there would be a lot more lottery winners out there… Some people believe incidentally believe the witch is only a channel for the power and not the actual source of the power herself. I don’t, I value personal intent in spells a good deal more than this and although it isn’t the only factor in effective spell work its probably the one element which if missing would render any work you do useless. You have to know what results you want and you have to want them. Simple but it catches a lot of witches out. There’s no room for… ”I wonder what would happen ….” in spell work. It’s also interesting to consider that sometimes your real intention can be buried in your sub conscious rather than your conscious intent. This explains a lot of spells that don’t work out exactly how they were expected to…
In answer to your question, if you feel you are casting effectively then it is very likely that you are doing so. To be honest if you are putting enough effort into your magic to feel repetition will be draining then I would say you’ve got a good handle on what you’re doing already. Ignore these spells that insist you do something a certain amount of times (or on a certain day, that’s a real pet hate of mine!) Learn to rely on your instinct. I’m not saying anything goes because it doesn’t but what I am saying is that if you stop and feel the way forward you will probably find the ways that do work and in particular, work well for you.
