ANSWER – I agree that the idea of child marriage is a sickening one. An eight year old is neither emotionally nor physically equipped to embark upon a marriage and to my mind forcing them to do so is nothing more than child abuse. However, if there was a “simple spell/prayer” that could stop it, I am pretty confident that some witch would have cast it by now. Changing the beliefs of a culture is not a simple business and this is one of those areas where education and public awareness are better tools than magic to tackle the problem. I strongly believe that the more people who raise their voices against this type of thing, the more impact they will have and the more countries such as the Yemen will start to listen. You dismiss world politics but don’t forget that the economy of many countries depends on trade with other countries. Raising awareness to the level where bigger countries start to sit up and take note and the trade rights are jeopardized is a powerful tool indeed against eradicating behaviour that has no place in the 21st century.
Do I think magic can help? Definitely and I think your idea that witches and Wiccans all round the world hold these children in their hearts and send them love and support is a wonderful one. Your compassion and awareness of such a difficult situation is to be praised. I also agree that as a group effort we would achieve a strong impact in supporting these children.
You obviously feel very strongly about this issue, seize your chance to help these children. You could start up a Facebook page to get witches and Wiccans to send positive energy, I am sure many would join. You could also write to the government to make your views heard, maybe even start a petition. Don’t feel a lone voice won’t make a difference. The world only changes because people like you want it to and dare to speak out.
