QUESTION: Can you help me interpret my dream about a bull deity?
ANSWER: I hope you don’t mind but I kept the essence of your long description and left the the details out of this question to save on length and exposing details to others.
I would interpret this as a good dream. It appears to show you being accepted as a follower of a particular deity, and for that to have been your request at some point in time. I believe the deity you met is Adad, a deity known in Babylonia, Assyria and Aleppo. He is known as the god of oracles and divination, which seems to suit your path, and his sarcastic comment to you.
I would understand seeing ‘x’ everywhere after the dream would mean you are on the right path still – X does mark the spot after all.
QUESTION: (edited for clarity and length) I’ve been interested in witchcraft since I was young. Raised by a Christian family, I followed their teachings blindly for a long time but have begun to question things and now don’t know what to believe. I have felt nature’s heartbeat and have made unexpected connections with nature. I attributed it to feeling God’s spirit in nature but no one else around me saw things like that. I would like to explore further but where do I start? How do I know it isn’t all in my head? How can I connect on a deeper level with nature? Are there spells that do that, or do I just focus on it?
ANSWER: Firstly, my apologies for reducing your text to a manageable size. I think I’ve kept everything important to answering your questions but please feel free to email back if there’s something I missed.
There’s a fair bit to unpack in your message so I shall start with feeling God’s spirit in nature. Paganism is largely about just that, except we might call it the Divine, attribute it to a god from whichever Pantheon we follow, or we might see that nature is god itself. I think your way of putting it is just as valid as ours – it just uses a slightly different focus and language.
Where to start is a question we get asked a lot, and there will be other answers to that question on our site but here’s mine for good measure. My best advice is to remember what it was like to be a child. There’s no hard and fast rules for this, you’re going to make them as you go along so be open to anything because you’ll never know when you’ll find the thing that fits you best. To do that you need to bring forward your childish curiosity and awe in the world. Don’t be afraid to explore, poke your nose in lots of places, read voraciously and widely if possible and don’t forget there is a wealth of information and experience available on the internet to wander through too. Your actual starting point doesn’t matter, go with whatever you are drawn to. My next best piece would be to be careful too, use your intuition and if something doesn’t feel right then walk away. Anyone/any institution asking for a huge amount of money, professing themselves to be some sort of guru or promising something that sounds unrealistic or too good to be true are usually warning signs to leave them alone. The first skills to learn when beginning a witchcraft path (whichever you choose) is to learn how to ground, centre and protect yourself. This will keep you rooted in the real world, sure of who you are and protected from anyone with ill intent towards you.
I can assure you that it IS all in your head and that is perfectly alright. The truth is that everything you see as real is experienced through your brain in one way or another. After all, 10 people can witness the same accident, and all have slightly different stories. We all see and create our reality within our own minds so that sense you get is in your head, and so it should be – but it is also something else. It’s something many people across the planet feel and experience just as you do. We might explain it differently somehow and our stories may seem far from each other, but it’s the same thing we’re connecting into wherever we are and however we explain it.
There are spells that can bring you closer to nature but while you are at the beginning of your path I would suggest simply spending as much time as you can in nature. Again, use your inner child to explore, wonder and learn about the world around you. Your connection will naturally deepen the more time you spend there. If you feel working closely with nature is your calling, then begin to explore the natural world through whatever means is accessible to you. Read, watch, learn, go out there and explore and then when you’re ready, go deeper into that world and find other ways of exploring.
I hope this helps and you find your first step.
QUESTION: Do the personalities of witches change when the sun goes down? For example, their mood changing, the way they feel about people, places and things altering.
ANSWER: I’ve heard of effects such as this from the changing moon before with those who follow nature-based paths, but I have never come across this as a witch thing before your question landed in my inbox. As my advice is always to check out physical world answers before magical, I did a quick google search and it seems to suggest this might be a health problem rather than an energy/intuitive thing. My suggestion is to make an appointment to go see your doctor and ask for their advice.
QUESTION - I don’t believe in good luck or bad luck, my outlook is that all things happen for a reason, however I don’t believe that what has been going on in my life makes a bit of sense and would like to know your opinion if possibly I’ve been cursed or hexed by someone? It has been progressing for several months now. To cut a long story short, in the last two months my entire checking and savings account was emptied, my husband upped and left me after a 10 year marriage, I lost my house, then my little pup Apollo was hit by an 18 wheeler and taken from me, now my car is on the verge of repossession due to my divorce.
I’ve suffered from a lack of mental stability trying to hold my sanity together because I had such a hard time trying to go to work and deal with everything that all hit me at once.
I’ve never had anything like this happen to me, and my husband who was loving and caring one day just poof left and will not even talk to me and has had me blocked from calls and everything.
Could someone have cursed me? I don’t know much about spells or curses so any help would be appreciated thank you
ANSWER - This is a hard one to answer as I do believe in good and bad luck. And I think it is important that things like bad luck and coincidence are fully explored before looking to more complex explanations. You may have heard of Occum’s Razor, a philosophical argument which suggests that the simplest solution is most likely the right one. That view can very effectively be applied here.
Bad luck does exist. That is not to say that predetermination doesn’t but it would be nonsensical to ascribe meaning to every single action in our lives. Sometimes we do just have to hold our hands up and acknowledge a run of bad luck.
The trouble with the way we think as human beings is we are always looking for patterns. Each event in your series is, unpleasant and distressing yes, but nothing out of the ordinary that happens to people every day around the world. It is your decision to link them into a pattern and see the events as a holistic chain that causes you to question whether some other force is at play here.
It’s like if you throw a coin in the air and call heads and it lands heads. As an isolated incident this wouldn’t seem anything unusual. However if you repeated it 30 times in a row and got the same result then you would find it amazing. Even though you have an exactly 50/50 chance of calling the coin toss correctly in every single attempt. My point being that when you start to see things as a chain then perspective is easily lost.
There is a pattern but the pattern is one of logical cause and effect. The final issues put a strain on your marriage which led to you losing your home as part of the split up process. Same with the car. The mental health problems are a result of the stress you have been under. Each event follows on naturally from the last one.
The good news is that when you take a step back and examine each incident independently then you can stop viewing as a chain of unhappiness that will lead to worse and worse things. There is no reason to assume from the negative events that have happened to you that anything else bad is going to happen. That, at least is reassuring.
It is highly unlikely that you are the victim of a hex or a curse. Witches do not perform that kind of magic likely, If you had made a witch angry to the extent where she was willing to put out that kind of energy then you would definitely know about it. I think you can put your mind at rest that there are no malign influences at work here.
I really hope things start to get better for you. soon.
Question - I am new to all of this. I am trying to figure out which type of witch I am. I love to do things on my own so I obviously would be a Solitary witch but also, I want to go with the path of an Eclectic witch. But what do I call myself when it comes down to it all? Sorry if this question is dumb but I wanted to ask anyway. Thank you so much.
Answer - It is always interesting to see how people new to a craft path get very focused on labels. This is understandable as the rest of the world and particularly the Abrahamic faiths are very big on labels and it is natural to assume that such a structure would apply to a new path.
However witchcraft defies most labels. It is my view that being a witch is about self- actualisation, looking inward to find who you are rather than looking outward to find which hierarchy or structure you can shoehorn yourself into with the least amount of squeezing.
Eclectic witchcraft is a very broad umbrella and pretty much includes all witches who do adhere to a specific tradition. As a general term this could be applied to many witches in the modern world. Individuals who blend elements from traditions or who forge their own path independent of any tradition or heritage are likely to be referred to as Eclectic witches. I see no reason why you cannot refer to yourself in this way if this description fits you.
However, generally I’d steer clear of anyone who wants to apply a definition to you. As your path evolves you may find a label does naturally start to fit, but let the label find you rather than the other way round. Experiment and work with your nature and your abilities and become your own witch.
It is not what you call yourself but what you achieve as a witch that is the important thing.
QUESTION: Is Witch Path Forward a Coven?
ANSWER: We are not a coven. A coven is a group of people who choose to worship, learn and practice their faith as a group. While we do offer resources for you to use in learning about Paganism and engaging in your faith practices, we do so for all, whether you choose to join a group, be solitary or a combination of the two.
So, a little advice for anyone thinking of joining a coven!

QUESTION: Is it real?
It’s difficult, when we get a short question like this, to decide how to answer. Do we answer in as broad a way as possible? Do we ignore it and hope they get in touch again, a little more concisely? There are many facets to all questions but this time, instead of talking to you as a Pagan, I’m going to answer as a Psychologist.
Is it real?
What is reality? Reality is perception. No two people will ever perceive anything in exactly the same way. Brains develop individually, using a complex and infinite combination of environmental and cognitive factors. So, what is the perceived reality for one person can never be the exact same perception of reality to another.
Is it real?
Is magic real? I believe so. From my reality, my perspective, science and magic are one in the same. Science, for me, is the explanation of magic and does nothing to make it any less fantastical. For others, magic is the manifestation of energy, which they believe they can influence with their own energy, much like Christians and other groups believe in the power of prayer. All the universe is made up of various forms of energy and we find ways of transferring and altering that energy every single day so is it a huge stretch to consider that by focusing the energy of our minds, which itself runs on many forms of natural energy and communicates using chemical energy signals, we could change, influence or move the energy on the outside? I don’t believe so, though many find it too much of a stretch for them.
In the end, what you truly must ask yourself is; what do you believe? What is your perception? What is the basis of your reality. When you know that, and it can take a lifetime to answer that question, you’ll be closer to being able to answer this question for yourself.
