QUESTION - Curious to find information on witches being reincarnated as witches. Plenty of material out there on one aspect or the other, but this specific combination has eluded my searches. To address an often raised assumption...no, I have no "memories" of past life torture/burning/hanging/etc - only the knowledge that my sisters and I share the past as witches and see many "spill over" issues in this life for each of us. Although none of them are as convinced of their heritage as I, it has been a focal point of strong identity with my current life and viewpoint. I'd like to know what others may have to offer as far as information with this phenomenon that seems to go unnoticed in the mainstream and witchcraft circles (witches reincarnated as witches).
ANSWER - One of the things that frequently comes up in discussion is the concept of how relevant a memory of past lives actually is. If we take reincarnation (as many of us do) as being a process by which the soul develops new learning from each lifetime, memory of previous lives could actually be seen as a hinderance to the learning from the current incarnation. I think this is particularly interesting in the concept of being reincarnated as a witch. In each lifetime the witch has new challenges to face as she actualises her craft within the world. I wonder if the value lies in how the witch comes to her craft and finds her true self each time. Possibly this is one of the reasons there is so little information out there?
There is also the interesting idea that some witches who claim to be reincarnations are actually experiencing ancestral memory. As many witches work closely with their ancestors, this makes good sense. In a sense this would not be so much reincarnation of a single soul but reincarnation of the ideas, thoughts and beliefs that have descended down the bloodline.
I’m not personally a fan of the idea of either hereditary or previous life witchcraft. I see becoming a witch as a choice and the idea of being reincarnated through each incarnation as a witch kind of makes me feel my choice is being taken away from me. One of the best explanations I’ve ever come across is a witch who said she was not born a witch but she was born to become one. Possibly the spark had been present in each of her lives but it was in her current incarnation she chose to actualise it. I like this because it blends the idea of born a witch and becoming a witch together.
You’re right by the way, there is very little info on this out there. I found a couple of articles that may interest you (see links) but very little seems to specifically address what you are asking. Tell you what I’ll do, I’ll post the question on the community page and see if anyone has any info that may be more relevant.
How do I cleanse land? In November 2012 my mother killed herself. She died three days later. My mother had 17 dogs and my brother came home and chopped them up.
The luck got worse. I found out I got two disorders then I lost my job and two months ago my house burned down. My house, my herbal garden and my tree all burned.
When I bought the house I realised there was a elderly man ghost with it. He was friendly so I let him be.
I was out of state when it burned. So when I came back home I control burned the rest of the building away. The house cried and this (see pic) is what came out.
It is not nice it's bad luck and evil. My car blew up and I lost my job. I thought it was me but I think its a curse and I want to know how I break it. II do no harm to no one - I'm a nurse (a healer) and a fire fighter. Please my friend, help me.
Firstly, I am very sorry about the loss of your mother and the pain you and your family have suffered. It is quite natural that all this trauma has lingered on and that you still feel the atmosphere tainted by the tragedy you have gone through.
Breaking a curse and breaking bad luck are two different things. I don’t actually believe you have been cursed, it would have manifested itself very differently and been more focused on a single person. I think what you are going through is more of a reaction to the negative vibes that have been left behind from the tragedy. The positive side of this is that there are a lot of things that you can do to influence this situation and to bring positivity back to your home.
The first thing you need to do is to understand that everything that has happened is an individual event in itself. There is a psychological danger of linking negative events together in your mind to form a chain of bad luck. The danger is that you will start to believe in your own bad luck and that kind of thinking will propagate further negative experiences. I say it a lot but a lot of things that happen in life are due more to coincidence than to malign influence.
You then need to look at protecting your property. There are many different ways to do this but we’ll go with a simple hoodoo based protection. Take equal amounts of rock salt and red brick dust and mix together. Both of these have powerful protective properties. Sprinkle around the parameters of your own to form a protective circle. At the same time, smudge the boundaries with a simple blend of incense – I’d personally use sandalwood but any of these will do the job of purification and/or protection – cedar, juniperberry, pine, amber. Some witches choose to fortify the boundary of their home with other substances, popularly their own urine. I’ll leave that one up to you…
Once you’ve sorted out the atmosphere of your property, you need to look at eliminating the negativity from yourself and your person. Like I say, its unlikely you are cursed but it may be prudent to put a little anti hex protection in place anyway. Buy a small amount of dried agrimony (any good online herb store will sell it) and sew half into a little pouch to keep on your person. With the remaining amount, grind it down and mix with a skin friendly substance (Vaseline, coconut oil, body moisturiser) to make a body wash. Use this to wash your entire body down. Once you’ve done this, get some more of the purifying incense, set it alight and move it round your body in a circle. This will cleanse your aura of the negativity and the agrimony will ensure if there is a hex against you, it is broken.
In terms of your ghost, I think that was released when you burned the house. I don’t see the ghost as intrinsically evil in itself, more as a memory of the miseries of the house. What I can suggest is that you take a piece of rubble from the old house (or soil from the land if you cannot obtain the rubble) and bury somewhere peaceful and private as a symbol of laying the house to rest. Speak over the “grave” about how this is an end to the misery and the start of new beginnings. Tell your ghost it is time to return to the earth and to rest.
And approach your future with optimism, the worst is behind you now. Bad things in your past do not mean bad things in your future. Take your first steps into your new beginning.

QUESTION - My question may seem a odd one,but please believe that it asked with a sincere heart. I recently fell in love with a witch in Devon, alas she is married (in the Christian/civil sense) to a man who manipulates her and guilt trips her (threats of suicide if she leaves him, being a bad mother etc...) in to remaining at his side. Lest you think I am a destroyer of marriages I assure you I am not, I'm no warlock. Their union in the physical and emotional sense is long over but being a woman of duty and honour once this pig of a husband found out about our deep love he forbade her to ever contact or receive message from me ever again, I dread to think what evil threats he used and nasty manipulations he used to comply with his selfish order. Wait though there is more - When we first spoke it was as if the whole universe shifted to bring us together, she is witch and from what I can ascertain a skilled and powerful one, she told me she had for many lifetimes been a witch that she had witnessed these lifetimes in the same way I can recall last Tuesday. Not only that she said that I had been with her in all her lifetimes and that it is the order of destiny that we will love each other. I am shamed to confess that at first I was sceptical, but have me whipped as a swine if from that night to this I have dreamt of our lives sometimes it is her and I walking through a forest that I find hard to describe sometimes its in a circle of magick or stone temples, ruins, wonderful other land looking places, scorched earth, ruined cities both modern and ancient, great feasts but always her and I surrounded by vaguely familiar people. She is always a witch, sometimes I am one too, other times her dog others a crow sometimes a warrior of some kind, sometimes a hunter others times a female lover, sometimes her husband sometimes her bodyguard but always filled with love of the purest kind. After a few months of not seeing her and not talking I drank a bottle of gin and washed down tablets and fell at the shore of Skegness. As the tide rolled in I was saved and survived and when I was recovered I made a trip to a Seer who told me that if I were to travel and win her from this vile man I would have to use cunning and careful strategy against him and take my time for he is full of jealousy and malevolence - after all he read every communication we sent to one another and a great deal of it is her telling me about our multilifetime love.
My question is in layers, the first is should I attempt the long journey? The second layer is if I do go how can I protect myself from his malevolence and anything she may throw at me (in the magikal sense) as I said she is a lady of honour ,duty and commitment and it is likely that anything I try with him there is a chance that in defence of her sons father she may feel duty bound to try and stop me from harming him (though I carried the sword and practised martial arts in the past, I now abhor violence) by binding me or worse, how do I protect myself from her abilities?
I am but a novice, but I cannot live without her, my life has always felt it was missing a piece and being in love with her and the many dreams that have come since, I find it near impossible that I can ever be at peace without her. Please excuse the length of this request for help. Blessed Be.
ANSWER - I cannot doubt the sincerity or the passion of your love, but to be honest, your question comes across as a bit of a dichotomy. On the one hand you talk about this man manipulating and threatening your lover, but on the other hand you say she is a powerful witch. There’s an incongruity here. If she is as powerful as you claim she is, then surely she can summon up the power to leave the relationship. I’ve got to question if she is as committed to you as you are to her. I know that hurts, but believe me an experienced witch would have little difficulty extracting herself from a relationship she no longer wishes to be in.
My advice to you is to seek from the lady herself whether she wants to be with you. Write her a letter and ask her to be honest with you about whether she thinks the two of you have a future. Tell her you are prepared to give it your all and support her all the way but you need to know if she genuinely wants to be with you. If she cannot show you the same level of commitment then no, I don't think you should undertake the journey. I can see little to be gained from pursuing her if she is adamant a relationship between the two of you will not work. She may well stay with the man from duty and not love, but that is her choice and if you respect her the way you say you do, you must respect that she has the right to make her choices independently of what you believe to be right or wrong.
As a believer in reincarnation, I believe we often come across a person in one life time to whom we are drawn but that it may not necessarily be this lifetime that provides the opportunity for that person to play an integral part of our lives. It is entirely possible that this woman is someone who has played a big part in your past and may well do so again in your future, but in this particular incarnation it is not to be. This may well be what you are seeing in your dreams. The fact that a relationship is not to be in this lifetime does not invalidate what you may have shared in the past and what you may well share again. If you think of each lifetime as learning a different lesson, this could well be your opportunity to learn to be comfortable within yourself before joining with this woman again, perhaps in your next incarnation.
I would caution against seeing another person as the missing piece of who you are. You are a whole and integrated being. It is a wonderful thing to share love with others but essentially you need no person to complete you, you are complete in yourself. By taking a step back from the situation and allowing yourself to strengthen you will be better prepared to tackle whatever comes of this situation. I would also add that if you take the time to concentrate on building your own strength you will also come across as a more attractive prospect than this rather needy man the lady in question appears to be married to.

QUESTION -Yesterday in the night I had a drink in one of my very very heavy crystal glasses. In my very own face the glass broke in the middle, pouring the rest of the drink on the table ...my candles were making infrequent noises all afternoon ,like a strong sssss ....
Now , I am a solitary eclectic, I have come across many unpleasant events, but not like this one. Perhaps you are more experienced than me? I seek help - I want to know what was all that about! What does it mean? I truly appreciate your time to answer me. Thank you
ANSWER - I personally wouldn’t necessarily connect the two events. I see the glass breaking as more significant than the candles. Candles do make some funny noises sometimes (I’m presuming the candles were lit, lol, there may be more relevance if we are not talking about live flames here…)
My gut instinct is that you are carrying too much energy about with you at the moment and this created a vibration in the glass which caused it to break. You obviously practice as a witch and I have noticed that people who regularly work with magic tend to build up higher supplies of energy than those who don’t.
Are you making enough time to siphon off your excess electricity and to ground yourself back into the earth regularly? Even the most experienced witches have been known to neglect this at times and it can cause negative vibes both in the world around you and in your body itself. Have you noticed you are suffering from more headaches recently? Tiredness? These could equally be a sign that you are not releasing your energies effectively enough. Try putting ten minutes a day aside for grounding and hopefully that will help.

Traditionally the cat is the familiar of the witch, sometimes believed to be a spirit guide, sometimes believed to be a way for the witch to leave her body and travel inside the body of her cat. Some folklore would have the witch’s familiar perceived as a demon, but as demons do not play the large part in witchcraft that popular culture would like to believe, this is a less likely explanation.
Mythology often speaks of a witch changing her shape into a cat and although this is obviously symbolic as opposed to actual, it says a lot about how powerful witches in times gone by were perceived to be. The cat has become particularly associated with witches as many of the old women accused of witchcraft owned a cat.
The familiar is said to be both the servant and the protector of the witch and the cat is an additional pair of eyes for the witch to search out dangers
Although modern witchcraft still embraces the concept of the familiar, I must stress that a cat is not a necessary part of a coven. Not all witches have a familiar and those that do no not necessarily use a cat. I own four cats, none of whom has every demonstrated any ability to assist me with my magic. To be honest, I’d consider my tarantulas to be better familiars than my cats.

QUESTION - I believe in the magic of spells...At the moment I have someone extorting money from me..I have given in and decided to pay. Is there a curse I can put on the money that they will get ill gain! I don't like it as I believe it will come back to me but what can I do?
Hmmm, this really is an opportunity to get a little nasty… It depends what you have access to. If you have a well stocked witch cupboard, I’d wrap the notes (absolutely give the extorter the money in cash) in something nice and baneful while visualizing wrapping the person in misery and bad luck (A few datura leaves will have a good impact.) You could try sticking some rue in there as well, nice and itchy! Mistletoe oil has a powerful baneful kick, so in addition, try saturating one of the notes in that.
If you haven’t got access to this kind of stuff, I see no reason why things from your kitchen cupboard won’t work just as well. Basil is associated with monetary wealth, so try doing a wealth reversal spell. Take the money and place in a bowl with a few heaped tea spoons of either fresh or dried basil. Stir the money round the bowl anti clockwise and use a simply worded spell, something like:
“Fortune change, fortunes reverse
Your wealth to take a change for the worse”
Take the notes out slowly one by one and visualize the personal finances of the person slowly ebbing away as the funds are removed. Hand the funds over personally in cash.
You worry about the curse coming back to you – that’s quite a new age/Wiccan concept. Its not an idea I subscribe to, I curse away quite happily and nothing has ever pinged back at me. If it makes you feel better, think of it as justifiable defensive magic, you are not doing the spell out of malice – the other person started it. Really, you’re just balancing the universe!
Incidentally, why are you letting this person extort cash from you? Are you being blackmailed? Are you sure paying them is the best idea? Normally blackmailers keep on wanting more and more and are rarely satisfied with a one off payment… Are there no other alternatives?

Its not impossible, though to be honest without knowing you and without any personal connection, I doubt any witch would be able to guarantee a certainty. I’d also be extremely cautious about how spell casting would cause you to lose your baby. In a world where medical abortions are clinically safe to perform, I don’t think asking a witch to help you to bring on a miscarriage is the safest option for you at all. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a moral objection to abortion, but I do have a moral objection to assisting you with something that could have a serious impact on your physical and mental health.
You don’t tell me the stage of pregnancy you are at…A late miscarriage can have potentially harmful, even fatal consequences. It’s a hell of a risk to take and an unnecessary one at that as any doctor will treat your situation with sympathy and present you with safe options.
You don’t say which part of the world you are from (though I’m guessing America). I am aware that there are some places where abortion is frowned upon and even prohibited. If this is the case I would seriously suggest you confide in your doctor and consider having your unwanted child adopted. In the long run (if abortion is not an option and a doctor will hopefully present you will all options) having your child adopted is the better and safer solution.
Now, I’m aware that this isn’t the answer you wanted and no doubt you will be tempted to go and find someone else who will help you. But I caution you strongly against it. Yes there are herbs and spells etc that may help you to lose your baby but none of them are without consequence. Get the dose wrong and you risk you own life as well. Induce a miscarriage and you run the risk of haemorraging to death without medical help. However much you think this baby is ruining your life now, it isn’t worth taking these kind of risks with your health and your life. Do the right thing for yourself and your unborn baby and take medical advice.
So no, sadly I will not induce a miscarriage for you. And should you find a witch who will, particularly one you only know from an internet website, then quite frankly I’d run a mile if I were you. Any witch who is prepared to recklessly gamble with the life of somebody she doesn’t know is either a charleton or a psychopath. Both are to be avoided.

Do you mean how do spells work? In the sense of how can a witch casting a spell in one part of the world have a helpful effect on somebody at the other end of the world? I think this is what you mean…
That’s a pretty complex question, you’re basically asking how the whole nature of magic works and without spending days of my life writing a 20,000 word dissertation on the subject, its not easy to explain. But what I will do is give you a very simple analogy as to how I understand magic to work. Magic is the actualisation of intent. When you cast a spell, you send energy and intent into the world and the energy you send changes the circumstances toward which you are directing your energy. It isn’t a linear affect - basic spell work is sadly not as simple as visualising a simple outcome and working to change it. Think of it more like throwing a stone into the middle of a pond. You are directing your force and will with the energy of the impact but you can’t necessarily predict exactly what affect the impact will have on the pond, i.e. the patterns it will form, the distance to which the ripples will travel… With magic, you are sending your energy into the world (some witches call it the ether or the web of wyrd) and similar to the stone in the pond, it's hard to direct the energy toward a highly specific outcome (you cannot always be sure how a spell will work). So - spells influence by channelling energy in the direction you want your intent to go but they don’t work within the confines of a simple cause/affect framework. Generally the more accomplished the witch, the more precisely she can channel her energies and this is when a witch can become more confident that she will achieve what she wants to with her spell work. However, as any witch recognises, magic has a mind of its own and quite often the results of a spell will actualise themselves in a way that the caster never imagined when creating the magic…
To use another example, think of a domino rally. The positive intentions of the witch hit the first domino and then every domino in turn has a positive impact on the next one in the line. This is a bit simplistic as domino rallies tend to work in one direction whereas magic can work in any and all directions. But you get the general idea, the intent of the witch makes changes that spread out into the world, each change making other changes as the energy works toward its target. Think of it if you like as belief and intent bending the very fabric of life, the more powerful the intent, the more potent the energy, the more change it can bring about.
There's an interesting article on Witchvox that goes deeper into the psychology of magic. I've linked it here for those who are interested in discussing the subject further.

Absolutely not, I have no professional counselling qualifications at all and no intention of acquiring any. In some ways advice giving is the very antithesis of counselling. A good counsellor seeks to help an individual to form their own conclusions. Giving advice is much more about offering solutions. Its important to know your own limitations both as a witch and as a person and I can tell you honestly that I have too much ego to make an effective counsellor. I’m also too fond of the quick fix solution whereas a lot of people who go into therapy don’t need answers thrown at them, they need time, patience and gentle guidance. I’m not the best person to ask for that!
I am however in the unique position of being able to offer advice based purely on my own perspective. As a teacher, coach, counsellor, priest, therapist, whatever… there are very strict rules of conduct. I’d never get away with some of my politically incorrect solutions. I deal much more in cutting through the red tape of convention and coming up with solutions that actually work, even if they are occasionally a bit frowned upon socially. I can (and frequently do…) say the things that other people are forced to shy away from. If I ever committed to a formal body I would have to give up a lot of my common sense practicality and I don’t want to do that. I might consider mentoring from a craft perspective but it would be totally unreasonable for me to take on someone with emotional or mental problems as I would be preventing them from seeking the help of people who can offer more than I can.
Incidentally, I have a great respect for mental health therapists, many of my close friends have benefited from therapy at one time or another and I’m always happy to direct anyone who comes to me toward the medical profession if warranted. Like I say, you’ve got to know your own strengths and weaknesses and this just isn’t a field that I think I would be a success in.
I have a serious yet silly question. How do you know you’re a witch and not just overly fascinated? And how do you get started?
This kind of depends on whether you believe a witch is born or made. Though either way, whether you choose to become a witch or to affirm your birthright as a witch, the answer is much the same. If you choose to do the things a witch does then chances are that you are a witch. So it’s not so much a case of knowing you’re a witch as much as it is a case of choosing to be a witch. The choice is very much in your own hands.
I get a lot of people asking me if they have the right to call themselves witch and at what point of their study they can claim the title. It’s pretty straightforward, it isn’t a title, the word “witch” describes more what you do than what you are. So if you do the things associated with witchcraft I see no problem with you identifying as a witch. Very simply put, if you grow herbs with the intention of making your own cures, if you work with magic, energy or intent, if you use divinatory tools to see into the future or if you work with spirits, elements or deities, chances are you’re ticking most or some of the right boxes. If you just like reading about all this stuff and wearing floaty black skirts then you are probably not a witch…yet…there’s nothing to say you won’t get more hands on further down the line.
I’d say the crossing point is when you stop studying and start casting. You can be the most learned person in the world as far as the academic study of witchcraft is concerned but if you’ve never rolled your sleeves up and cast a spell, you’re not actually doing what a witch does and you’re not so much a witch as you are someone who’s read a lot of books. (To give you an example, reading every aerial manual I can get my hands on wouldn’t make me a pilot. Would you want to fly with me if I had no practical experience? Would you want the airline to hire me as a pilot??)
There are people with significantly more academic knowledge than myself on the subject of the craft but I wouldn’t swap their knowledge for my ability to…ahem…work the world to my own ends. In witchcraft knowledge isn’t power, power is power and as soon as you understand that and start making that power work for you, you’re on the right road to identifying as a witch.
In terms of how you get started, well you make the transition. You put the books away and you have a go. You’ll probably feel a bit silly to start with and a lot of what you do might not work as well as you hoped. But like anything, you get better the more you do it. Nobody ever painted a masterpiece without churning out some bloody awful rough sketches first and it’s the same with being a witch. Don’t fool yourself that you can learn everything from books. Some of the best witches I know don’t even possess any books, they listen to their intuition and they do what works for them. Find your own voice and your own way forward and get as much practical experience as you can. A simple summary - “Stop reading, start doing!”
